Porto da Barra is the staging area for the Barra Ondina route, the street is blocked off to normal traffic and open only for pedestrians. You can walk to all the Carnival events from Porto da Barra. The Carnival circuit starts at the Barra light house and ends in Ondina, going along the waterfront for the whole 6km. A great location to watch the bands start their 6 hour performance is at the Barra light house, also where the TV cameras are located. |

Just up the hill from Barra is the Campo Grande circuit that starts at Campo Grande and as of last year ends at the entrance to Pelourinho. There is no good place to watch the Campo Grande curcuit for free, like at the Barra light house for the Barra circuit. It is usually more fun to buy into a bloco or camarote to attend the Campo Grande circuit. In Pelourinho, there is a more traditional Carnival. |
