You will find one beautiful beach after the next here in Salvador. Being only 12 degrees S. of the equator makes the temperature of the air and water PERFECT . The water is just COOL enough to COOL you off but, you can stay in it for an hour or until your fingers get wrinkled. The beach is THE MEETING PLACE! There are big broad ocean beaches for surfing, body surfing and playing in the waves. . . or there are islands with semi deserted beaches and calm waters . . .

Salvador's night life is full of SHOWS, PARTIES and AMAIZING CUIZINE . Listings in the local papers and the cultural guides give the current events. Live music shows are the most popular, second are open air bars and private parties. There is a whole range of restaurants from stylish to humble with a heavy influence of seafood and West African ingredients. Try an Acaraje , the street food is great. Don't leave without trying the famous Moqueca .

Being on the point at the mouth of the bay, the neighborhood "Porto da Barra" has the feel of a small beach town. The protected 2 blocks of beach are the most popular in the city . Everybody goes to the beach, singles, families, grandparents, small children, teenagers and plenty of vendors selling everything from hats and bathing suites to fried cheese. You rent a chair and umbrella and spend the day swimming, drinking coconut milk or sub-zero beer. |

The old city, Pelourinho, is active 24 hours 7 days a week. The restored buildings and cobble stone streets full of art galeries, shops, bars, restaurants, night clubs and theatres make Pelourinho a great place to visit during the day and go out at night. One day is not enough to see all that lies with-in the old city. Pelourinho is only 6 km from Barra, a 10 minute taxi ride. It is best to pick up a cultural guide from EMTURSA with a list of the events for the month.
